Coaching to Further Develop Skills
Suggested Strategy: The coaching target has a base for their skills but
needs to dedicate time and effort to further improvements. Using a risk
question, present the idea that further improving their skills is more
beneficial than staying in one place.
Suggested Questions:
→ Present & Respond: Hypothetically, if I were to present to you that
your skill level in certain areas can be further improved beyond your
current skills, how would you positively respond to that feedback?
→ Risk Question: What risks do you think you might assume by staying
in one place regarding your skill level?
→ Self-Actualized Question: What specific actions do you think you
would be committed to taking in order to further develop your skills and
mitigate the risks we just discussed?
Suggested Activities:
→ GOAL-Based Coaching: What does this employee strive to become
Great at in the next year in their position? What Opportunities might
become available to them as a result of becoming great? What Actions
must the individual take or have facilitated to make those opportunities
a reality? What will the employee specifically Love about reaching their
goals? How will continually developing their skills and abilities help to
position them to reach their goals even faster?
