→ Whiteboard Coaching: This type of coaching takes some of the

potentially uncomfortable feelings that the individual might experience in

being coached by giving them something to focus on rather than sitting

face to face with you. On the left side of the board, write down how the

individual would describe their current actions/behavior/abilities in the

area that they identified as having an opportunity to improve. On the

right side of the board, write down how the individual would describe

what the ideal actions/behavior/abilities in that area might look like in

their position. Then, erase the left side of the board (signifying that you

are moving past their current state) and brainstorm together the actions

that the individual must take to reach the ideal state on the right side of

the board and how those actions will attribute to their ultimate success.

Suggested Learning Projects:

→ Observational Coaching: Assign your coaching target to observe their

peers throughout the coming week, noting the actions of their peers

related to the area that the individual you are coaching is working to

improve. What takeaways from their observations can the individual put

into practice on their own as they work to make improvements in the

area they had identified? What did they learn from observing their peers

that they did not know before related to their area of improvement? How

do their peers find success in their actions/behaviors/abilities that the

individual you are coaching strives to reach? Discuss their observations

at your next coaching session.
