Suggested Activities:
→ Role Play: Practice what building a peer relationship looks like. Revisit
the risk question from earlier where they disclosed what is holding them
back from seeking peer relationships. Then practice the things that are
holding them back. For example, if the employee states they don’t seek
relationships because they don’t know what to say, come up with some
conversations starters and practice them together.
→ Peer-to-Peer Coaching: Find a peer that you feel would be a good
confidence booster for this employee. Take into consideration the
attributes they mentioned when it comes to people they seek as friends
outside of work to best match personalities. Have them keep in mind the
risk question you presented earlier when meeting with their peer.
Suggested Learning Projects:
→ Journal-Based Coaching: Have the employee write down two benefits
they gained during the week while working with this peer-to-peer support
and how it can thwart the negative risks from the risk assumption
question earlier in your coaching conversations. Have them then
summarize their journal entries at the end of the week with how they
have noticed a change from before this intervention.
Supplemental Coaching Strategies:
→ Non-Verbal Coaching: Leave your coaching target a hand-written note
on their desk when you observe them practicing the skills they sent you
in their weekly email. Make sure your note is specific and descriptive.
