Suggested Learning Projects:
→ Observational Coaching: The employee should
observe the conversations that happen around
them throughout the day. They should keep a
journal entry daily of what happened in the
conversation, what the employee thinks was
effective in the communication, and what they think could have been
executed better and how they would improve the conversation. Discuss
the journal entries to the next coaching session.
→ Self-Directed Learning: Have the employee come up with a number of
tasks they need to delegate during the week and have them stick to it.
Have them keep track of numbers regarding how long it took, quality,
etc. This helps them associate tangible benefits to delegation vs.
qualitative opinion from you as a superior.
Supplemental Coaching Strategies:
→ 30-Second Coaching: Let this person know when they are making
positive strides toward the goal of delegating through peer relations.
Take 30 seconds to tell them specifically what they’ve done well and
how their actions are appreciated by you and the team.
→ Non-Verbal Coaching: Write them a note and leave it on their desk
when you notice them exhibiting the behaviors and skills that were
brainstormed in the activities section. Be specific in describing what they
did, when, and why it was appreciated.
