Suggested Activities:
→ Whiteboard Coaching: At the top of a whiteboard, write the word
Gossip . On the left-hand side of the board, write down the effects that
this person thinks that gossip can have on the office culture. On the
right-hand side of the board, write down how this person would describe
the ideal office culture. Underneath that, write down numbers 1 through
5 in list form, representing the steps that this person can take to help
the office reach the ideal culture described on the right side of the
board.
Suggested Learning Projects:
→ Whiteboard Coaching Follow Up: Ask the employee to come back to
your next coaching session with the five steps that they are willing to
take to help the team reach the ideal office culture description from your
Whiteboard Coaching Activity filled in.
→ Journal-Based Coaching: Ask the employee to keep a journal in the
coming weeks – the entries should include observations around the
office. These observations should describe times where this person
observed teammates participating in office gossip. What effect does this
person think that the gossip might eventually have on the office culture?
Did this person participate in the gossip at some point? How does not
participating make this person feel?
