Suggested Activities:
→ Brainstorming: Make a list of things that are happening outside of
work that are bothering the employee that they might be willing to share
with you, with the agreement that those issues will not be shared outside
of your office by either of you. Set up a recurring schedule together of a
time once per week that you can get together so that the employee has
an opportunity to verbalize some things that may be bothering him/her in
a protected area of conversation.
Suggested Learning Projects:
→ Journal-Based Coaching: When the employee finds themselves
letting personal issues come to the surface during the workday, instead
of talking about them with others or allowing them affect his/her day,
have them write those issues in a journal to bring to your protected area
of conversation. That way, he/she has an outlet to get their troubles out
but in a way that will not affect their day, or those around them while
having a way to offset some of the stress associated with the things that
are bothering them.
Supplemental Coaching Strategies:
→ 30-Second Coaching: This gives you a chance to keep the positivity
going in this employee’s day. Let them know when you notice that they
are having a positive day.
