Suggested Learning Projects:
→ Self-Directed Learning: Assign your coaching target to
apply the strategy just discussed to real situations with
staff that has recently joined the team. They should go
through the specific steps they could have taken in
those situations with new staff members using the new
strategy and compare it with the actions that they
actually did take. What could have been the difference in
the outcome? How might their new strategy have led to
greater success with welcoming and accepting those
new staff members?
→ Journal-Based Coaching: As new staff joins the team
going forward, ask the individual to keep journal entries
noting the steps that they take to welcome and accept those new
individuals. What differences do they notice in the team as these new
staff members join in, and how did the person you are coaching play a
part in those differences?
Supplemental Coaching Strategies:
→ Non-Verbal Coaching: As the individual works with new staff members
to welcome them and accept them into the team, leave a hand-written
note at their workstation sharing with them the specific actions they
have taken to accept those new staff members and why those actions
are appreciated by you and are beneficial to the team.
