Confidence in Speaking Up to Peers
Suggested Strategy: Use Whiteboard Coaching to help the individual
visualize what confidence in speaking up for themselves looks like.
Suggested Questions:
→ Rating Question: On a scale of one to six, with six representing that
you are one hundred percent confident in appropriately standing up for
yourself with your peers, and one representing that you do not stand up
for yourself at all, where would you rate yourself and why?
→ Success Imperative: What actions do you think we could take together
to successfully help you move toward a six?
Suggested Activities:
→ Whiteboard Coaching: On the left side of a whiteboard, write down the
things that the individual believes may be currently holding them back
from standing up for themselves to their peers. On the right side of the
board, write down how the individual would describe what it looks like to
stand up for yourself confidently and appropriately to peers. Then,
erase the left side of the board (signifying that they are going to be
moving past the barriers that keep them from standing up for
themselves) and create a strategy together for the individual to take as
they need their voice to be heard going forward.
