Suggested Learning Projects:
→ Tangible Successes: Assign your coaching target to come back to
your next coaching session with three examples of where they made
sure that their voice was heard when it was necessary to do so. Did
they implement the strategy from your whiteboard activity? If so,
what did they find to be successful? What did they feel most
uncomfortable with? What was the outcome of the situation?
→ Journal-Based Coaching: Ask the person to keep a journal in the
coming weeks as they build their strategy for having their voice heard
and the practice standing up for themselves with their peers. They
should note in their entries how they handled those situations, what
they were able to accomplish as a result of their actions. How is their
level of confidence in those situations, and does it change afterward?
Supplemental Coaching Strategies:
→ 30-Second Coaching: Utilize positive reinforcement by taking 30
seconds to verbally acknowledge improvements in the individual’s
confidence in making their voice heard. Be specific in sharing with them
what actions the individual has taken and why those actions are
beneficial to them.
