Suggested Learning Projects:
→ Self-Directed Learning: Assign your coaching target to go out in the
coming week and perform three actions to improve the team
environment. How did their actions tie in with the description that was
on the right side of the whiteboard from the activity to mitigate the risks
they currently face? Did they notice any outward change in the attitude
of their team members as a direct result of their actions? If so, what
were they?
→ Journal-Based Coaching: Reflection as a leader is a very powerful
thing. Have the individual keep a journal with entries noting the
successes that they encounter as they work with their team to improve
the overall environment. They should also note the challenges they face
and how they specifically address those challenges and work toward
making them successes.
Supplemental Coaching Strategies:
→ Non-Verbal Coaching: There is no doubt that this is not a small
challenge for a leader to take on. Share some positive observations
with the individual related to the efforts and specific actions they have
taken to improve the overall team environment that they are working
with. Leave them a handwritten note at their workstation, sharing your
observations with them and letting them know how much their efforts are
appreciated.
