Suggested Learning Projects:
→ Self-Directed Learning: Ask the manager to go out during the week
and take three courses of action to evaluate and improve their
relationships with the individuals on their team. Discuss their actions at
your next coaching session, as well as any observed impact that their
actions had on their relationships with their team members.
→ Observational Coaching: Assign your coaching target to observe
other teams around them throughout the week and their relationships
with their managers. What differences and similarities do they notice
between their team and others? What takeaways from their
observations can they implement in their own relationship
evaluations and maintenance of their relationships with the folks on
their team?
Supplemental Coaching Strategies:
→ 30-Second Coaching: As the individual really dives into evaluating
and building/maintaining their relationships with the folks on their team,
take 30 seconds to share the specific actions taken by them that you
have observed, as well as how those actions are beneficial to their
team. Let them know that their efforts are appreciated.
→ Journal-Based Coaching: Ask the manager to keep a journal with
entries noting their successes as they work on their employee
relationships and what led to those successes. They should evaluate
the challenges that they come across in the process and how they can
take those challenges in the future and turn them into successes.
