Representative Socializing Too Much
Suggested Strategy : Focus on the effect that being too social can have
on both the representative you are coaching as well as their peers.
Help the representative find the ideal balance between social
conversation and focus on their work.
Suggested Questions:
→ Permission + The Sword: With your permission, and so that I do not make any assumptions because that would be unfair to you, I would like
to share some observations with you that I think will provide an
opportunity for you to grow in your position. (When permission is
granted) It is my perception that socializing often distracts you and
others from completing work.
→ Third-Party Question: What do you think your peers might say when asked about your ability to separate social conversations from work?
Suggested Activities:
→ Practice: Give the representative examples of situations where it might be tempting or easy to socialize (another representative starting a
conversation, something personal going on, etc.). Ask the
representative to role play the conversation or walk you through how
they would handle the situation.
