→ Whiteboard Coaching: On the left side of a whiteboard, write down how the representative thinks their peers would describe their ability to
minimize socializing at work. On the right side of the board, write down
the ideal balance between socializing and remaining focused on
completing their work. Then, erase the left side of the board and write
down the actions that this person will be willing to take to reach the
description written on the right side of the board.
Suggested Learning Projects:
→ Journal-Based Coaching: Ask the representative to keep a journal throughout the coming week. The journal entries should include
examples of times during the week where the representative felt the
need to socialize with another employee, how they handled that
situation, and what effect their actions had on the situation. Have them
write down when they were successful in remaining focused, as well as
when they found themselves distracted or distracting others. Be
prepared to discuss the journal entries at your next coaching session.
Supplemental Coaching Strategies:
→ 30-Second Coaching: Take 30 seconds out of your day to verbally acknowledge an improvement that you have observed in this person’s
level of socialization while at work – specifically let them know what
actions they have taken and why their efforts are beneficial and
appreciated.
