“Is Bed Rest Good For Your Back Pain?” FIND OUT HOW TOWAKE WITHOUT AN ACHE

Bed rest and inactivity have been shown to weaken muscles and bones. Whereasexercise ingeneral, increasesstrengthand flexibilityof themuscles, aiding in healing through increased blood flow to the affected area. It has also been found that exercise and aerobic activity, like walking, assists in bringing nutrients to structures in the spine. Some of these structures, like the discs between your vertebrae, have a poor blood supply and rely on your body’s movements and aerobic activity to circulate nutrients. When a person is inactive, less of these nutrients are able to get to the structures in the spine to keep them healthy. In our SPINE program we look at your individual health history, as well as your current mobility level and interests. Based on this, our physical therapists put together an individualized exercise program specifically for you. They will help guide you back into your previous activity level without pain. In addition to exercise, physical therapy utilizes a variety of gentle modalities such as ultrasound, electric stimulation, massage and heat or cold therapy to help relieve muscular spasms. Our program will first relieve your pain and then provide exercises to restore your strength and instruct you in how to prevent your symptoms from recurring. EXPERIENCE DRY NEEDLING TO REDUCE PAIN!

Performance is offering dry needling for your aches and pains. Dry needling utilizes a solid filaform needle. No substances are injected, therefore the technique is called ‘dry needling’. Trigger points are hyper-irritable spots in a taut band of a muscle. Trigger points may cause pain locally or refer pain to other areas and cause dysfunction of normal movement patterns. Specific evaluation, palpation, and treatment of trigger points may reduce pain and restore function. Physical therapists performing this procedure have advanced training and certification in the use of trigger point dry needling. If you or someone you know is suffering from any chronic pain, contact a facility near you to seek treatment today!

WHAT SHOULD YOU DO IF YOU HAVE BACK PAIN?

Healthy Recipe

Most back pain is due to excessive forward bending. If you have pain, avoid thispositionasmuchaspossible. Initially it may seem like it is helping but overall it will probably make things worse. 1.Lie flatonyourstomachon thebedor floor. If you are unable to lie flat, initially put a pillow under your stomach and gradually try to remove it. This will keep your spine neutral and may alleviate your sharp pain. Once you can tolerate this position, lie with your elbows under yourshoulders togetsomeextension in your spine. Hold here for 3-5 minutes. Do this several times a day. 2. Start walking! The spine likes movement and walking may be one of your least painful activities. Be sure to keep an upright posture while walking. 3. Avoid sitting, but if you must, use a small roll behind your back when you

sit. Try to keep the spine in this position to prevent increased pain from sitting. 4. Be reasonable with returning to your previous activity level. Gradually return to what you love to do. Give your body time to heal. Of course, we are also here to guide you if you find that your pain needs more help than these suggestions. Once we alleviate your pain, we will help you return to all of your favorite activities and provide exercises to prevent your symptoms from returning.
