At The 1 in 12 Club - Not Just A Building

The main thing I probably did there was on, I think it was Tuesday nights, was dominoes and pool. Other places where you went away on the outskirts of Bradford, they didn’t always warmly welcome 1 in 12-ers people. That’s maybe over-simplification; some places were really, really very kind and generous and blah, blah, blah. But some of them were a bit more intimidating and also deliberately laid on things like a tripe or bread and lard or whatever, or very meaty things, should we say, partly deliberately to intimidate. Nevertheless, we went on to great heights and did quite well in the end. Derek Simmonds Bill Pritchard was an older guy, retired miner, and he was very much involved in setting up the games collective. So what we used to do was, on a Monday night, we had the games night - pool, dominoes - and we used to play against all the local pubs. So one Monday we were at one pub, and then next Monday, they’d be at the club. So now we’re showing the club to other people as well. Gordon Mackintosh
