The 1 in 12 is part of Bradford culture and Bradford culture is part of the 1 in 12, isn’t it? … I’m not sure it could have existed anywhere else but the north of England. Andy Bryant Somewhere like the 1 in 12 could happen anywhere. But the time that it did happen, in the early 80s, Bradford had a really active scene of like, I always remember Bradford Claimants Union, which is what the 1 in 12 Club was before the 1 in 12 Club was the 1 in 12 Club, it was a rough collective of people who were called Bradford Claimants Union, which, as the name says, helped people claiming benefits and offered support and all that sort of thing … they were really switched on and that was really important. So that attracted a lot of students and people with that kind of mindset of anarchist principles. Bri Doom We got taken on one of Gary Cavannagh’s famous Bradford radical history tours. Went to various places, and obviously we ended up back at members bar, had a drink, became a member of the 1 in 12 Club… the start of your undergraduate course of Peace Studies would take people, so 20/30 people on a tour Bradford, and obviously indoctrinate them, introduce them to the 1 in 12 Club. And as Peace Studies students, you’ve got people from all over
