Thou’s first ever performance in the UK happened at the 1 in 12 Club, back in June 2009. We came into the country courtesy of Moloch, a band from Nottingham who we had never met and had contacted us through Myspace. We flew in illegally without visas, posing as friends on a roadtrip who just loved playing music. It was a memorable evening, not just because it was our first UK show, and not just because I naively tried to tip the bartender (this received a disgusted look, as if to say, “I don’t need your charity, idiot”), but because the crowd was absolutely incensed after we finished playing. Our standard 25-30 minute set time was met with cries of “is that fucking IT?” which would later turn into blog entries decrying our short set time and penchant for playing on the floor instead of the stage. I think we played 3 songs. Looking back, we should’ve indulged them. We should have played for 35 minutes. Andy Gibbs
