H AWKESBURY

Ratepayers will see a slight rise in the

municipalportionof theirpropertytaxbills

this year, even though Hawkesbury town

council has trimmed the tax rate for 2011.

With the adoption of the newbudget, the

municipality has reduced its rate by three

per cent. However, since property

assessments are rising, the average

homeownerwill payabout 1.3per centmore

this year, Councillor Michel Thibodeau

related at Monday’s council meeting.

The increase is reasonable considering

that the rate of inflation in Ontario last year

was 3.3 per cent, he added, noting that the

town also faces increases in energy and fuel

costs.

Volunteer Firefighters Agreement

The town has concluded a new three-

year collective agreement with its 30

volunteer fire fighters. Thepackage includes

two per cent raises in each year of the pact

which is retroactive to 2010, relates chief

administrator Normand Beaulieu.
