Switch Terminology
Amp (A) : The measurement of the flow of electrical current. Voltage (V) : The force or pressure that causes movement of electrons through a circuit. Horsepower (HP) : Rating for motors. One horsepower is equal to 746 watts of electrical power. Watt : Standard unit for electrical power . The power consumed when one ampere flows with one volt applied to a circuit. Alternating Current (AC) : Electric current or voltage that reverses direction of flow at regular intervals. It has alternately positive and negative values. Direct Current (DC) : Electric current or voltage that does not reverse direction of flow and may have pulsating characteristics. Its polarity is either positive or negative. Inductive Load (HP Ratings) : Motor loads and magnetic loads. Examples include items like power drills, electric mixers, fans, and vacuum cleaners. Resistive Load (DC Ratings) : Non-motor loads that offer resistance to the flow of current. Examples include items like incandescent lighting or heating loads, as found in electric heaters, ovens and irons. "L" Rating : Tungsten filament lamp load on AC Voltage "T" Rating : Tungsten filament lamp load on DC Voltage
