RE-THINK AFFORDABLE ZONING TINY HOME ZONES
Most municipalities have zoning, land use and development codes to guide development of typical single-family home and multifamily product. But, a tiny home development, does not neatly fit into either of these categories. A municipality could design a zoning district or overlay district know as “Tiny Home Zones.” A tiny home zone or village (THZ) could consist of typical tiny homes on foundations and movable tiny homes (MTH). Following are several ideas for potential development of such THZ.
* The images below are of a Southern California trailer park with plans to rebuild a Tiny Home Village that is purposively designed to increase a sense of ‘community.’ Currently, these types of pocket neighborhoods can only exist on land zoned for RV Parks.
