to add or detract. The world will little note, nor long remember, what we say here, but it can never forget what He did here. It is for us rather to be here dedicated to the great task remaining before us — that we here highly re solve that this Christ shall not have died in vain, that this earth under God shall have a new birth of freedom, that all people made by God, redeemed by Jesus' blood and kept by His unfail ing power, shall not perish, but have everlasting life. —G enevieve F. J acobs * * * Not all people with brass are "polished." DATE*SETTING Stamp collectors will appreciate an incident related by the former Special Assistant Postmaster General, James F. Kellerher. He told the press that he encountered a real problem one day when a woman called demanding that a commemorative postage stamp be put out which would emphasize the second coming of Christ. Kellerher challenged the caller, “Ma’am, if you’ll tell me the exact date, I’ll get a stamp ready for the issue.” The inquirer hung up in disgust. The postal official made the mistake of telling reporters about it. When the item got on the wire services and was published across America, he received all kinds of letters. In the first few days’ mail Kellerher reported that he had been sent at least a dozen let ters from people who claimed to know the exact time and place of the Lord’s return. Interestingly enough, however, each one of them was different. The Word of God tells us to beware of false prophets. Date setting has caused many people to go astray from the truth. The trusting believer earnestly looks for Him every day, but at the same time, as the Epistle of James suggests, we must “be patient”. The surest thing in the world is the personal, bodily, visible return of the Lord Jesus Christ. His second coming is both imminent and imperative. We are nearer the event today than we have ever been before. Let us heed the scriptural ex hortation, “Therefore be also ready: for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of Man cometh” (Matt. ZW-UU). * * * The Law condemns the best man while grace saves even the worst.

be unto God for His unspeakable gift," the Lord Jesus Christ. * * * Good thing* become bad when they keep you from the best. * * * A CHRISTIAN'S GETTYSBURG ADDRESS (Apologies to Abraham Lincoln) Eons and ages ago, our Father brought forth in this universe a new earth dedicated to the proposition that all men were created in the image of God and should live peacefully and happily together. But the Prince of Selfishness has challenged that declara tion, making bondmen and slaves of all who follow him, making merchan dise of the souls and bodies of men. Now we are engaged in a great spir itual war, testing whether this earth or any earth so conceivedmand so dedi cated under the laws of God can long endure. We are met on a great battle field of that war. We have come to dedicate our lives to the service of God, the cause of Right, and the proc lamation of the Gospel of Jesus Christ who here gave His life for the lost of earth. It is altogether fitting and proper that we should do this. But in a larger sense, we cannot dedicate, we cannot hallow, we cannot consecrate our lives. The loving Saviour in His life, death and resurrection has con secrated us far above our poor power
