IP Reports 1Q Earnings Loss
Memphis, Tennessee based International Paper (IP) report- ed a net earnings loss of $141 million in 1Q, compared with $165m in 4Q of 2019 and $424m in 1Q of 2019. The net earnings included an after-tax charge of $337 million for the impairment of the net assets and write-off of foreign currency translation adjustment following the announce- ment of the sale of the Brazil packaging business. First quarter adjusted operating earnings (non-GAAP) were $226 million compared with $430 million in 4Q of 2019 and $447 million in 1Q of 2019.
