final revelation, the blessed vision of God. — H. M ayn ar d S m it h . M A Y 25 “ If It Die— ” “Except a corn of wheat fall into the ground and die, it ahideth alone: hut if it die, it bringeth forth much fruit” (John 12^24). O burdened, broken child of God, O troubled soul and tried, Through storm and strife thy Saviour speaks T o draw thee to His side. The hand that holds thy weight of woe Was wounded once for thee; Thy life is locked within His love And Calvary keeps the key. Oh, hush and hide thee in His love, Lie silently and still; In quiet confidence await The working of His will. So shalt thou learn His love for souls, So shalt thou bear His W o rd ; So shall thy life be lost in His— So shall men meet thy Lord! —E. M argaret C larkson . In the original, one Greek word is trans lated here, “ the things that are made.” That word is poiema. From it we get our English word “ poem.” Creation is God’s poem, witnessing to His eternal power and glory. . . . Creation is God’s first poem, but re demption is His second poem, and you and I who are saved constitute the syllables in God’s great poem of redemption. Every one is set in the right place by God Himself— “We are his workmanship”— and therefore He is given all the credit, for He has done it all through His Son.—From In the Heav- enlies, by H. A. I ronside . M A Y 27 Holding and Beholding “Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world” (John 1:29). “Lay hold on eternal life” (1 Tim . 6:12). There is simplicity of utterance, there is a depth of meaning beyond our compre hensions of man in the text: “Behold the Lamb of God.” The Christian life begins with a vision. We behold, and then we lay hold. W e see, and then we seize. W e ask, and then we take. The Christian life is walked on two feet. Some people are always hopping; they are on one foot all the time; M AY 26 God’s Poem “For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead” (Rom. 1:20).

they ask, but do not go on to take; they behold, but forget to lay hold. — A . L ind say G legg . M A Y 28 One Goal "I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus” (Phil. 3:14). My goal is God Himself—not joy, nor peace, Nor even blessing, but Himself, my G o d ; ’Tis His to lead me there, not mine, but His— At any cost, dedr Lord, by any road! No matter if the way be sometimes dark, No matter though the cost be ofttimes great, He knoweth how I best shall reach the mark, The way that leads to Him must needs be straight. — S elected . The garden of Ibrahim Pacha, near Acre, is watered with streams from Lebanon. So believers are sometimes favored with streams from the Lebanon that is above. W e receive out of Christ’s fullness, and drink of the wine of His pleasures. Oh, for more of these streams of Lebanon! Eveh in the dry season they are full. The hotter the summer, the streams from Lebanon be come the fuller, because the heat only melts the mountain snows. ■ — R obert M u r r ay M c C h e y n e . M A Y 30 No “ Post Mortem” "Forgetting those things which are be hind” (Phil. 3:13). Strewn among the big and really shatter ing things there are often tiresome trifles that can seem quite important and draw attention to themselves. And yet, “ They are gone! Why write their epitaph?” . . . As a rule to be applied to accounts it may not be approved, but as a way of dealing with the little ills of life it is excellent; a bad night, a bad day, a worry, a small pain, a petty annoyance. “ It is gone. Why write its epitaph?”— A m y C a r m ich a el . M AY 31 Our Infernal Foe "The accuser of our brethren . . . accused them before our God day and night’ (Rev. 12 : 10 ). “ Satan hindered us" (1 Thess. 2:18). The Word of God presents Satan as arl accuser and hinderer. There are conflicts, of years’ duration, so deadly and so des perate as to be inexplicable without a belief in the Scripture doctrine of a personal devil. In proportion as any disciple seeks to live an absolutely surrendered life may he ex pect assaults from the powers of darkness. . . . and may look for a supernatural pail of darkness at times, due to Satanic malice and malignity, and learn to attribute his obscuration of faith and hope, not to any voluntary departure from God, but to the diabolical plot against his spiritual peace which, as in the case of Job, shuts out for a time the vision of God.— A. T . P ierson . M A Y 29 Plentiful “A fountain of gardens, a well of living waters, and streams from Lebanon” (Cant. 4:15),
