ARTIST’S NOTE
Some of the illustrations in this book are inspired by works of art for which Luz Jiménez modeled. These I note below. I want to give special thanks to Jesús Villanueva—Luz’s grandson—for his expertise and for sharing with me resources that clarified what artworks Luz posed for. Jesús is committed to sharing his grand- mother’s story and to preserving her legacy. I hope this book contributes to that effort and that it helps young readers learn about Luz’s extraordinary life.
