UN JOUEUR DE BASEBALL AU MASSACHUSETTS
Jillian Van Every landed ahead of her competition at the Eastern Ontario track and field championships. The senior student at Rockland District High School (RDHS) brought back the gold in the senior women’s triple jump at the Eastern Ontario Secondary School Athletics Association (EOSSAA) Track and Field Championships, in Brockville, May 23 and 24. Van Every leaped into first place with a 10.52-metre jump. She also finished seventh in long jump. Also competing for RDHS at EOSSAA were Kiara Laberge with third in junior women’s 80-metre hurdles, and sixth in 80-metre hurdles; Katie Stewart was 17th in junior long jump and 21st in shot put; Kiera Yuill finished 19th in senior women’s long jump; and Treyden Lafrance was 18th in senior men’s long jump. The EOSSAA top-three finishes for Van Every and Laberge earned them a berth at the OFSSA-Eastern Regional championships in Belleville, later this week.
La saison du baseball arrive à grands pas pour les adeptes de ce sport, au grand plaisir de Maxime Maisonneuve, élève de l’École secondaire catholique de Plantagenet. Celui-ci joue au baseball depuis qu’il a 10 ans et y consacre de huit à dix heures par semaine. L’élève de 11 e année a été repêché par les Capital City Reds U17 Travel Team d’Ottawa, en janvier dernier. Le joueur de deuxième but et arrêt-court aura la chance, du 20 au 23 juin prochain, de participer au Perfect Game Tournament à Northborough, Massachusetts. C’est un évènement très sollicité par les athlètes, à cause de la présence remarquée des recruteurs des équipes de circuits professionnels. — photo fournie
