1. What is the organizational structure at Toyota, especially as it pertains to decision-making responsibility? How does this compare to your organization? 2. What is the role of information technology and information transfer in the Toyota system? 3. Can you identify circumstances under which the cost control system at Toyota would fail? 4. What are the constraints that limit Toyota’s choices? 5. How does the Toyota target costing process differ from the federal budget/allocation system? 6. Is Toyota a ‘joint’ operation? If so, how does Toyota make ‘joint’ work with contractors? 7. What is the role of Toyota’s chief engineer in cost control? Can you replicate this in your organization? Why or why not? 8. What is the role of technical expertise in Toyota’s system? Do you have comparable expertise available in your present organization? If not, could you acquire needed expertise?
