Objectives: By the end of this session you should: • Understand how several heuristics that individuals use when making decisions can sometimes lead to biased/sub-optimal decisions. • Understand the differences between inquiry and advocacy modes of group decision making as well as how and when to use which approach. • Have identified several clear action steps to improve both individual and team decision making processes. Pre-readings: 1. Complete Mission Critical Online Assignment. You will receive a separate email from your Program Manager with a link to complete this assignment. It should take approximately 5 minutes to complete. 2. Carter Racing A&B 3. Big City Phone Company (BCPC) background material

Exercises (in class) : 1. One additional case – to be distributed in class

Suggestions for Preparation: 1. After reading the Carter Racing case, make a decision to race or not race. Come prepared to defend your decision. 2. Read the background material for BCPC and come prepared to engage in a strategic decision- making exercise.
