JANUARY 2025
www.franklinbuildingsupply.com | 208-514-2200 | 9222 W. Barnes Dr., Boise, ID 83709 Looking Back and Looking Ahead
Every January, we’re naturally drawn to reflect on the previous year and consider what’s in store for the year ahead. It’s essential to pause, assess our wins and losses, and consider how we need to adjust to achieve our goals in the coming year. Here’s what stands out to me from 2024: • The Boise Door Shop completed its move into expanded and remodeled facilities, including offices and a showroom. This was a significant investment that we are beginning to reap the benefits of, positioning us to be the preferred door shop in the Treasure Valley for residential and commercial customers. • We’ve just about wrapped up reworking the old Boise Truss Plant into a new home for our countertop fabrication operation. This will be the first time the countertop team has been able to operate in a purpose-built facility and to work adjacent to the cabinet shop, to which so many of their sales and processes are naturally linked. • We had more sales opportunities with customers and prospects across markets and locations outside the Treasure Valley than anticipated. Our teams did a great job capturing those opportunities. • We had a tough sales year in the Treasure Valley. Adjusting to the new customer mix and figuring out the right model for some of our interior-installed products caused more problems than anticipated. • We invested heavily in building up our commercial, multifamily, and similar sales and operations capabilities in the Treasure Valley and expect to start reaping the benefits of those investments in 2025. • Our safety record improved by several measures, but we’re still short of our goals and what is truly possible. We each must decide this is a big enough problem to solve to effectively move on from stubborn habits and old assumptions that continue to hold us back. As we look ahead to 2025, here’s what I’m excited about: • As we continue to work to improve current operations, we’re now also pursuing expansion in the Idaho Falls area and Western Montana. This is good news for our ESOP and our customers. • We continue to improve how we recruit, hire, and onboard new employees so we can make sure you get the right people working
alongside you. We still have some gaps, but it is improving. This is good news, as every
employee who is here for the right reasons deserves like-minded, reliable, and engaged people safely working alongside them. • We’re investing heavily in training to help our
frontline supervisors and other managers across the company become better leaders who are focused on serving those around them and helping every employee reach their potential at FBS. • This year, we are in a better position to increase sales to customers and prospects in the Treasure Valley and solve our interior install problems. These adjustments, combined with a strong outlook for markets outside the Treasure Valley, should add up to a 2025 that improves upon our 2024 financial performance. • We are getting a break on construction projects, though we expect construction to start for our new Idaho Falls area location in early 2026 after we finalize land acquisition and permits. • If every day, each of us (1) maintains the right mindset about our work and related risks and (2) focuses on making small improvements to our work environments and processes, we can genuinely work smarter, not harder, and we can eliminate injuries — eliminate, not reduce. Are you willing to commit? To change? To hold yourself and others accountable? To do it every day?
I appreciate all you’ve done in 2024 and all you’ll do in 2025 to help us reach our collective goals.

HIGH FIVES! Easy
and willing to train. He truly understands the big picture of a company culture that revolves around sales and operations. He is helpful to his door shop team but also provides the CSR team with creative solutions to fit our customer needs. We may present him with what we think to be a solution, and he will ask questions to better understand the situation and customer. Many times, he has pointed us in a better direction to keep our customers happy and taken care of. Big thumbs up to Corey G. Wow From: Tyler Honn, Boise To: Amber Hall, Boise Shout out to Amber Hall! She has been helping us with Shea billing on a complicated situation. She has the best skill set to fix the problem and is willing to spend the time to help us out. The customer will just see a correct statement and not know the effort that the FBS team took to get to that point. That is how you Wow a customer. Thanks, Amber! Strive From: Mitchel Montgomery, Twin To: Jarod Stansell, Twin The labels of the siding product display were not looking great. Labels were folding over the product codes, which made them unreadable. Jared removed the old labels and replaced them with ones that wouldn’t fold. The display looks more professional now.
From: Eric Heiden, Burley To: Robert Rogers, Burley
Robert helped out at the front counter all day on Dec. 26. We were surprisingly busy that day (given the weather and the fact that we weren’t sure if anyone would really visit a lumber yard on the day after Christmas), and we needed to solve a lot of complicated problems for customers. Without Robert’s product knowledge and persistence, it could have been a customer service nightmare. Safe From: Cody Huft, James Bird, and Timothy Morrell, Jerome Transfer Yard To: Roman Herrin, Maintenance Shop/Mobile Mechanic Thank you for coming to fix our seatbelt for the forklift! It was a huge help getting both of our lifts working in proper order and back into the fight. Guide From: James Bermudez, Fruitland To: Corey Garcia, Fruitland I’m very happy to be working with Corey Garcia from the Fruitland Door shop. As a CSR new to the door world, he has been very supportive
BURLEY EXTERIOR IMPROVEMENTS A NEW LOOK FOR THE COMMUNITY
The Burley location recently completed a significant exterior facelift, enhancing its appeal and functionality. Franklin moved into the existing space around 1999 and has since undergone various changes, including a remodel of the design center. The original improvement plans were drafted in 2021 by the previous GM, Jeff Christoffersen, and approved for capital expenditure in 2024. Construction, which
began in April 2024, saw Snap Tight Products install foam panels with a stucco exterior. This method involves premade panels brought onsite and attached to the building, offering an efficient application process to the cinderblock structure and improving the building’s R-value. A new reader board showcasing Franklin’s famous witticisms was installed in December. Strategically situated along the town’s main drive, these upgrades increase foot traffic and significantly enhance the area’s visual appeal, creating a more inviting and vibrant environment. The back of the building is slated for a similar upgrade in 2025, with plans to use the same foam panel construction, given its importance as the main customer entrance. Burley is a growing community and Franklin brings a strong retail presence, especially with
no big box stores nearby. The sales team is dedicated to being the top retail destination, striving to offer a one-stop shop experience for Burley and surrounding communities. Future improvements include new commercial- grade LVP flooring for the 7,000-square-foot retail space, accompanied by an Orgill reset featuring new gondolas and facings. General Manager Casey Hazelbush had a lot of praise for his team’s dedication and hard work as they pivoted on schedules and responsibilities to ensure improvements to the customer experience. “Our entire team has worked seamlessly, even when short- handed,” Casey said. “Our new yard manager, Chris Conners, is a stud, and Kelly and Shane are setting a strong pace as everyone adjusts to evolving responsibilities.”

Abel is an essential member of the dispatch and delivery team at our Caldwell Truss location, where he helps ensure our operations run smooth and efficient. As part of his daily responsibilities, Abel verifies deliveries, manages driver routes, and ensures all equipment runs properly. His efforts help keep our deliveries on time and assist our clients by making their building process easier. His keen attention to detail and proactive problem-solving make him a prime example of an amazing team member. One of Abel’s favorite parts of the job is collaborating with his team to come up with creative ways to exceed customer expectations. His commitment to continuous improvement and team success reflects the core values we hold at Franklin Building Supply. He’s a true family man, and this past October, Abel welcomed his first baby into the world. When he’s not busy coordinating deliveries or spending time with family, Abel enjoys staying active through indoor soccer, golf, working out at the gym, snowboarding, biking, and gaming.
