2024 Master Teacher Chair Judy Hilbrich Sheppard

By Burns Jones, Head of School T

he Forbes Master Teacher Chair is the first endowed chair of the Cathedral School for Boys. The Chair was funded by the school’s loyal alumni and is designed to recognize teachers who demonstrate excellence in teaching,

display an abiding commitment to the school’s students, express an ongoing commitment to professional development growth, and are recognized within our school community for, in the words of our statement of philosophy, “modeling the highest standards in every respect.” The recipient receives a significant addition to her or his salary and a special professional development stipend to attend a conference nationally. Anyone coming into contact with Cathedral School for Boys, even for the briefest moment, has either directly encountered this faculty member or sensed her magnetism. Her presence, her dedication to our boys, her passion for this particular place are as contagious as they are inescapable. She is a first in so many ways. The first to greet me in the morning. The first to cheer, first to volunteer, first to put a loving arm around the shoulder of a boy who’s having a bad day, and always in the first row whenever our boys are in competition or performance. While passion for this place runs high within our community, there is no one more passionate. When there is work to be done, there’s no one who works harder. When adults need to show up for the boys, she’s already there. And on top of this, she regularly achieves the miraculous feat of helping middle school boys grow to love mathematics. This year’s recipient of the Forbe’s Master Teacher Chair is Judy Hilbrich Sheppard. R&G
