FELIX KAYE There is one person that I will remember most from CSB. That is Mrs. Madison. When I first arrived, she made me feel welcome by introducing me to everyone possible and by making sure that I felt like I was in good hands. I know that Mrs. Madison will always be there for me. Because of Mrs. Madison, I will always be warm and helpful to newcomers. “Don’t take life too seriously, it’s not permanent.” –AUTHOR UNKNOWN DANIEL MATHISON Things reinforced at CSB: l Ask for help. l Treat others how you want to be treated. l Be kind. l Try new things. l Double-check your work. l Tuck in your shirt. l Sing in chapel. l Always have a spare pencil to share. For the past three years at CSB, I have been filled with many great memories, friendships, and knowledge. I am looking forward with great anticipation to what lies ahead. It has been a privilege to be here, and I am proud to say that I am a Cathedral kid. “Memories take us back, dreams take us forward.” –UNKNOWN COLE MATTHES My nine years at Cathedral School for Boys have taught me the importance of community. From starting pickup basketball games on the roof to team building in advisory, this school has helped me form close friendships with people in my class. The simple, everyday activities that I thought were unim- portant were actually bringing me closer to others. Through the years, all the teachers have helped me develop and grow into the young man I am today,

ANSON WALKER My time at Cathedral has had a mean- ingful impact on me. Being a student here really encouraged me to try new things. When I first came, I auditioned for the choir and made it in. I hadn’t sung before, but it worked out. I also have expanded my horizons by trying volleyball. It was something new, but I tried it and loved it. Coming to Cathedral gave me the oppor- tunity to try new experiences. “If you care enough about a result, you most certainly will attain it.” –WILLIAM JAMES JOSH MCGUINNESS The great thing about Cathedral is how much the teachers care. When I strug- gled with my bipolar disorder through seventh grade, the teachers were right there with me, doing everything they could to help me catch up and feel better. I know for a fact that at most other schools the treatment would not be the same. Instead of helping me catch up and do well, they probably would’ve made me re-do seventh grade. That’s what makes Cathedral so special. People care about each other and try to make others the best they can be. “And in the end, it’s not the years in your life that count. It’s the life in your years.” –ABRAHAM LINCOLN ANDREW CHACON Over my three years in Cathedral, I’ve learned the importance of persever- ance. Applying this skill to many things has shaped me to be the person I am today. At the beginning of my time here, I didn’t know how to persevere because I came from a school where everything was significantly easier. Now I’ve learned to never give up and keep on trying to achieve greatness. “Without music, life would be a mistake.” –FRIEDRICH NIETZSCHE

KYLE FORTUNE Attending Cathedral taught me how to do many things that will help me later in life. The most meaningful thing that I’ve learned is responsibility and inde- pendence. Managing the class schedules and owning my own locker has helped improve my responsibility and inde- pendence and has prepared me for high school. “Obstacles don’t have to stop you. If you run into a wall, don’t turn around and give up. Figure out how to climb it, go through it, or work around it.” –MICHAEL JORDAN JACK DUNNING During the nine years I have spent here at Cathedral, I think that the most impactful thing I have been taught is the sense of community. Not even in most high schools do I see such a strong connection among students. This school works very hard to make sure the community is where it’s at now. I have a distinct friendship with every person in my class, which is more than what I can

MATTHEW JACOBSEN Going to chapel three times a week has helped me develop character and become a better person. In particular, I find the Friday Hymn Sing to be a great time to reflect on my week and think about others. Chapel is something that makes Cathedral a special school. “Do to others as you would have them do to you.” LUCAS LAM I have really valued my time at CSB. Since kindergarten, I’ve seen my naive, six-year-old friends mature into intel- ligent young adults. This experience has taught me the value of friendship. In a tight community like Cathedral it is very important to trust each other. I am thankful that I have had close friends whom I can trust. I’ve been with them through thick and thin and highs and lows. If there is one thing that I can take away from CSB, it is that I can always rely on true friends for help, and they can rely on me. “Good friends are like stars; you don’t always see them, but you know they’re there.” –CHRISTY EVANS FLETCHER MACK Throughout my nine years at Cathedral School for Boys, I have learned many things. One of the most important things I have taken away that will stick with me over the course of my life is perse- verance. It has helped me finish tough assignments, get through tests, achieve good grades, and help out around the Cathedral community. I have achieved a lot through perseverance, and I hope that others will too during their amazing years at Cathedral. –LUKE 6:31 “With ordinary talent and extraor- dinary perseverance, all things are attainable.” –THOMAS FOWELL BUXTON

and I will be forever thankful to them for guiding and supporting me. “Success is not final, failure is not fatal: It is the courage to continue that counts.” –WINSTON CHURCHILL JACKSON MOORE At CSB I learned how to not only be a part of a community, but how to help it. The first thing that Cathedral did to show me how to help the community was to be a Big Brother. In order to be a Big Brother I had to act as if MY parents were right there and set an example for my Little Brother. Also, in seventh grade I had the chance to do community service at the Spring Valley School. This experience impacted me deeply and l did it again over the summer. I will never forget my four years at Cathedral. “In this bright future you can’t forget your past.” –BOB MARLEY JACK PEASLEY-LYNCH My time at Cathedral has taught me a great deal, and I’m going to miss it. From coming to the school in second grade to leaving in eighth, I have had many great experiences. These experiences have taken many forms. But from outdoor ed to volleyball, the common denominators have been my classmates, teachers, and the Cathedral community. In my time here, I’ve learned much about myself, including my proclivity for humor. Cathedral has sustained me throughout my early years, and I would choose no other school. “Humans do not submit to fate; we shape it.” –FERRUS MANUS PARKER ROBINSON Cathedral has put a lot of emphasis on community and treating everyone how you want to be treated. I do not think that other schools in the Bay Area talk about community nearly as much. I really like talking about community in chapel

and at assemblies. It has taught me that when one of your peers needs help, you should help them because you will prob- ably be the one that needs help at some point. Being a community is a nice way

to become closer to each other. “If you aint first, you’re last”

–RICKY BOBBY’S DAD , Talladega Nights

WILLIAM RUSSELL Something very special about Cathedral School for Boys that I will always remember was the strong and very special community. The Cathedral community was so close and personal that I always felt comfortable around my peers. The Cathedral community taught me to embrace myself and not worry about how I appear or how I act because I knew that Cathedral was very supportive. This community is very special to me and makes this school very unique. I hope I will be able to be a part of a community like this through my life. “Buckle down, plug and chug, and do the practice.” –MOSE WILLIAMS, Former Seventh and Eighth-Grade Math Teacher RYAN TABIBIAN Being a member of the CSB community has taught me how to be my best self. I have learned to always respect every- body’s differences and to be able to look through different perspectives. Overall, I have learned that being my best self is what I should always be because CSB has taught me never to slack off or stop trying. “Health is the greatest gift, contentment the greatest wealth, faithfulness the best relationship.” –THE BUDDHA

say for most other schools. “Let’s get the slip goin’.”

–MOSE WILLIAMS, Former Seventh and Eighth-Grade Math Teacher

BRANDON HERNANDEZ

Something that was valuable at Cathedral was how the teachers and students acted all as one whole commu- nity. The teachers care about the students, academic and emotional [well being], and the students looked forward to [interacting with the] teachers. In my time here from sixth through eighth grade, I followed many pieces of advice from various teachers who helped me a lot. “ If a door says push, pull. It is not a direction, it’s a challenge.” –ANONYMOUS
