YASH PATEL During my nine years at Cathedral I have learned to be open to all people, regardless of their cultural background, economic status, or even their reli- gious beliefs. The school has helped me become a leader on and off the field, and in my classes. “There will be obstacles. There will be doubters. There will be mistakes. But with hard work there are no limits!” –MICHAEL PHELPS MATTHEW TSAKALAKIS The thing I love about Cathedral is the amazing sense of community. I have made incredible friends here and have developed close relationships, not only with students, but with teachers as well. The community has allowed me to feel comfortable being myself inside and out of class. This has definitely contributed to my success at Cathedral. To conclude, I feel that having close relationships with so many helps me thrive in a way that I would not be able to at a large school. “Alright guys, I know it’s Friday, but you still gotta buckle down, plug n’ chug, and do the practice.” –MOSE WILLIAMS, Former Seventh and Eighth-Grade Math Teacher SAM VOGEL-DENEBEIM One thing I’ve learned from Cathedral is how to be a better friend. We have been together for nine years, for better or worse. Through the years, I’ve had many friends and have felt close to most of the class. Cathedral has pushed me out of my comfort zone and has helped me be my true self. I wouldn’t change who I am. “Try not to become a man of success, but rather try to become a man of value.” –ALBERT EINSTEIN
SAMUEL HOCKING At Cathedral I have learned to be kind and well-mannered. Throughout my years, the teachers here have taught me traits that will sustain me for life: from basic manners, like holding a door for someone, to supporting someone when they are upset. I feel that people outside of school respect me more when I demonstrate what I have learned from Cathedral. “Choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life.” NICO KARPF Over my nine years at Cathedral, I’ve met many new people and have learned to take care of children younger than myself because of our tight community. The Big Brother program helped me gain the skill of taking care of people, which will be valuable in the future. It has also helped me reflect on how insane I was when I was younger. “No justice; No peace.” –CHRIS CORRIGAN, Seventh and Eighth-Grade English, and Yash Patel –CONFUCIUS AMRIT BAVEJA When I was in kindergarten through fourth grade, I had really hard time concentrating on pretty much every- thing. In the summer between second and third grade, I was invited to join the Cathedral Choir and, after careful consideration, decided to accept. After getting in trouble several times in the choir for zoning out and being on the wrong page, I began to develop strategies to focus. These strategies translated into my schoolwork and my daily life and help me on a day-to-day basis. I really took so much out of the choir experience and these strategies are going to help me for my entire life. “Price is only what you pay. Value is what you get.” –WARREN BUFFETT
MATTHEW GIN My nine years at CSB have taught me important lessons such as the value of hard work, teamwork, and leadership. I appreciate the many opportunities to discover interests like singing in the Grace Cathedral Choir of Men and Boys, participating in band, and playing school sports. These activities and experiences have given me key tools that I will take with me. I’m looking forward to high school, as well as the chance to return and give back to CSB. “Success is built off a foundation of hard work.” –UNIVERSITY HIGH SCHOOL Cathedral. The most meaningful thing I have learned is empathy. Our class is very tight knit and we all know and enjoy each other very much, in school or out. This skill I will use for the rest of my life and, thanks to CSB, it is much stronger than it would have been. “I want to be a dog when I grow up.” –BRANDON GOMEZ LIAM WALKER I have learned many things from BRANDON GOMEZ Cathedral School For Boys taught me how to be responsible. I go from class to class by myself. I go to my locker to get the books I need for the next class. I learned how to tie a tie. I have learned how to be polite and have good manners. I have grown to be respectful to my friends, teachers, and any other people in general. I also learned how to make friends and socialize with my peers who surround me. Basically, I learned that I can be a well-rounded human being. “Peace, love, and positivity.” –LOGIC
ALEX INFIELD What I’ve gained from CSB are the great life and musical lessons from choir. In third grade, I joined the choir wanting to learn music. Throughout those six years, I gained a lot more than musical training. Choir taught me advanced music theory, which is very important to me. It’s also very useful on high school essays. But I’ve also learned leadership, organiza- tion, and teamwork. To be a leader of the choir, you have to learn how to manage groups of students, work together with your peers, and lead younger members. “Frog in the pot.” –YASH PATEL CHARLIE WETHERALL Cathedral School for Boys will always have a place in my heart. I think I’ve learned how to be the best person I can be. Cathedral has taught me to show kindness and empathy towards everyone. My favorite memory of Cathedral will be Lessons and Carols because the commu- nity all comes together as one. I have been at Cathedral since the sixth grade. It was a hard transition, but because of the kindness in the community, I felt welcome. I would like to thank all my teachers for everything and helping me these last three years. “Life moves pretty fast. If you don’t stop and look around once in awhile, you could miss it.” –FERRIS BUELLER
