ANNUAL REPORT CATHEDRAL SCHOOL FOR BOYS 2016–2017
DEAR Cathedral School Supporters,
It would be sophistic, however, to limit our appreciation to financial commitments alone. Better than most, Cathedral has always recognized the myriad ways in which those who believe in us express their support—from volunteering in the lunch room, to touting the School to prospective families, to showing up for important school events. In fact, I believe that the real strength of any institution is best displayed through the less obvious expressions of support—expressions that go largely overlooked and routinely unmentioned in a school’s annual report. If this is the case, then Cathedral School for Boys is the standard bearer. As we look to build upon our successes from last year, then, it is important to thank all of those who, in ways recognized or not, contributed to the progress of this place. Our ability to nurture each boy and our leadership in the education of boys would not be possible without you. We are so appreciative of all that you do for this wonderful place. Very truly yours,
BY ALMOST EVERY MEASURE, THE 2016-17 ACADEMIC YEAR PROVED TO BE A GREAT ONE for Cathedral School. Our Annual Fund easily surpassed $1 million. Over 96% of our parents contributed to this effort. We completed a yearlong strategic planning process that has charted an exciting future for our school. We retained architects to evaluate our campus and to help us
envision how our space might better support a more modern, boy-friendly approach to learning. Amid one of the most competitive independent school admission markets in the country, our high school placement was as strong as it has ever been. We continue to attract interesting and talented boys from all over the city to our school. We have a great deal to feel good about. While I may run the risk of sounding immodest in mentioning these accomplishments, I believe it is important to recognize that none of this would have been possible without the support of those who continue to believe in and support this school.
