MOVING UP, IN, AND ON
CATHEDRAL SCHOOL FACULTY AND STAFF ON THE MOVE
ALEX ILJAS will move from his role as our current Upper School PE teacher and Assistant Director of Athletics to become the Director of Athletics. His commitment to the boys is unde- niable. Coach Iljas believes that a successful athletics program is really about developing character.
JASON THOMAS moves to lead Lower School Athletics after a successful stint as the School’s Interim Director of Athletics. Thanks to Coach Thomas for his hard work and dedication to the 2016-17 sports program.
KRISTEN GOGGIN serves as our new seventh- and eighth- grade math teacher. Ms. Goggin holds a Bachelor of Arts from Lafayette College and a Master of Arts in educational leader- ship from the University of the Pacific. She has been tasked to review our Upper School math program and develop curricular opportunities to further enhance the program.
CHAD HARLOW is our Director of Upper School. Mr. Harlow most recently served as the Assistant Principal for Lower and Middle School Academics at the Sacred Heart Schools, Atherton. Mr. Harlow holds a Bachelor’s degree in English literature from the University of New Hampshire, and he earned a Master’s degree in English from Boston College.
LUKAS RAHLSON is our fifth- and sixth-grade teacher science. Mr. Rahlson earned a Bachelor of Arts in geology from Middlebury College and a Master of Arts in independent school leader- ship from Vanderbilt University. He also graduated from the Hotchkiss School. He has taught middle-school science for the past five years at St. Mark’s School, a boys’ school in Dallas.
SARAH ROGGERO is staying on as our full-time, Upper School Spanish teacher, the position she held prior to serving as Director of Upper School. Ms. Roggero is an excellent teacher, and we know that she will do a great job in this role.
ELIZABETH CHARNAS is our new fourth-grade teacher. Mrs. Charnas is a magna cum laude graduate of the University of Pennsylvania, and she later earned her Master of Arts in education from San Francisco State University. Charnas’ professional experience includes work with pre-kindergarten through middle school students. Mrs. Charnas recently taught lower school science at Burke’s.
TALIA ARNON to Cathedral as a fourth-grade teaching assis- tant with a Master’s degree in elementary education from the University of Florida. She has worked as a fifth-grade reading and language arts teacher, as well as a fifth-grade enrichment math and science teacher.
JEN DRAKE is our first-grade teaching assistant and holds a Master of Teaching in middle and secondary school from the University of South Australia with an emphasis in arts educa- tion. Ms, Drake has founded two separate educational technology programs: Teachers+Tech and Codecraft.
JIMMY SANTOSA, an engineer by education, who taught fifth- and sixth-grade science, will play a broader role in our educational technology efforts this year. Mr. Santosa will work closely with our teaching staff to design curriculum and to integrate tech- nology into the classroom.
KELLI RIEGER, who has worked with Tracy Murray for the past two years, joins Margaret O’Brien as a second- grade co-lead teacher this year. It has been so fulfilling to have Ms. Rieger on our staff for the last two years, and to see her develop as a teacher.
TOM RANKIN moves from our technology department to teach Lower School science. Mr. Rankin has been instru- mental in developing our Sci-Tech curriculum with Chloe Banks and in bringing robotics to our Lower School science program. Mr. Rankin taught science at Stuart Hall for Boys before coming to Cathedral.
