RED AND GOLD TROPHY Darnell Adler, The Gold Team Captain The Red and Gold Trophy is awarded at graduation to the captain of the team that has scored the greatest number of points during the Field Day competition.
HEADMASTER’S AWARD Darnell Adler The Headmaster’s Award is given, upon recommendation of the faculty, to that boy who has shown outstanding improvement in academics over the course of the school year, and whose personal growth and development have been exemplary. FACULTY AWARD Siddharth Desai The Faculty Award is given to the boy whose character and commitment during the current school year have been exemplary of the excellence towards which Cathedral School aspires. DEAN’S AWARD Brayden Mathews The Dean’s Award is given to that eighth grader whose grade point average is among the highest in the graduating class, and who exemplifies academic and intellectual excellence. BISHOP’S AWARD Jack Rende The Bishop’s Award is given to that boy whose academic ability, leadership qualifications, and extra-curricular involvements show him to be an outstanding graduate of this school. GRADUATION PLAQUE Cooper Kistler The Graduation Plaque is accepted each year by the Student Council President on behalf of his class.

Trevor Traina
Frank Kyte Frank recently retired from his work as a research geochemist in the Earth, Planetary, and Space Sciences Department at UCLA. His primary area of research was the study of ejecta deposits from major asteroid impacts on the Earth, including the impact that killed the dinosaurs. Frank received the Barringer Medal from the Meteoritical Society for his impact research and even has an asteroid with his name: ‘84224 kyte’. CLASS of 1982 Kenneth High III Ken has returned home from many years in Boston and is now living with his family in San Rafael. He is teaching world history and international relations at San Domenico School (to a few fellow Cathedral Alumni!). Trevor D. Traina Trevor was officially installed as the U.S. Ambassador to Austria on May 25, 2018, when he presented his creden- tials to Dr. Alexander Van der Bellen, federal president of the Republic of Austria. (See story on page 74.) CLASS of 1985 Paul Haas Paul, Suzette, and their two daughters welcomed baby boy Sieger this year! John M. Saroyan John was among five physicians recently awarded with the prestigious 2018 Hastings Center Cunniff-Dixon Physician Award. He was recognized for his expertise in pediatric palliative care and hospice care, and commended for helping patients of all ages and their families make end-of-life decisions that align with their values. John adds, “At the ceremony, we had a very special guest—Ms. Marnie Wood! The Cuniff-Dixon Foundation founder gave her a special mention in his speech, saying, ‘And this is the first time an awardee’s third grade teacher was in the audience!’ She got a huge and well-deserved round of applause.” CLASS of 1986 Chauncey Kim Chauncey and Sarah Tolson were married on September 23, 2017 in a beautiful ceremony in the Chapel of Grace at Grace Cathedral. Their reception was held at the Metropolitan Club.
MERIT SCHOLAR This year’s Merit Scholarship will be SHARED by two students:
Stefan Tsakalakis and Sawan Garde The Owen Jameson Merit Scholar is that seventh grader who has earned the highest overall grade point average in his class. For his diligence and hard work, this boy is awarded a full tuition scholarship. CHAPLAIN’S AWARD Cooper Kistler The Chaplain’s Award is given to that boy who most exemplifies a spirit of selflessness and generosity, and a willingness to help and serve others, without thought for himself. ART AWARD Nicholas Sheppard The Art Award is given to that eighth grader who has demonstrated a commitment to excellence in the visual or performing arts during his time as a Cathedral student. ALUMNI AWARD William Atkinson The Alumni Award is given to that eighth grader who most exemplifies commitment and service to the school community, coupled with high individual achievement and excellence.
