At the School’s 60th Anniversary Celebration on April 28, 2018, Canon Forbes spoke lovingly to nearly 600 guests (and about 200 alums) about the early days of Cathedral and about how risk-taking was (and hopefully still is) an essential part of the School. Inspired by this milestone event and in honor of Canon Forbes’ lifelong commitment to education and our school, a group of alumni led by Bill Bennington ’79 and Greg Lee ’78 initiated an ambitious $1M to create Cathedral School’s first endowed teaching chair.

will rotate among faculty, recognizing the wonderful work that so many teachers bring to our School. We believe that this endowed teaching chair will be invaluable to the School: acknowledging its fantastic teachers and excellence in educating young men, saluting the brave founders from 60 years ago, and providing inspiration for the mission ahead.

Cathedral’s first teaching chair honors Canon Forbes, Cathedral School’s Founding Headmaster and one of the School’s three Lifetime Trustees, whose unwavering commitment to Episcopal education and Cathedral School has persisted for six decades. This endowed chair will honor a current Cathedral School teacher (or teachers) whose tenure has been distinguished by teaching excellence, exemplary service to the School, and unwavering dedication to our boys. It will include a salary stipend and additional financial support for the recipient’s professional development. It
