THE GUARDIAN SOCIETY

THE DOTTIE SAYWARD WYLIE FUND

From 1990–2005, Dottie Sayward Wylie served as CSB’s Director of Admission and helped parents and children navigate the daunting and difficult process of finding the right school. A vital part of her work was always to build a community that reflected a broad and varied diversity; a community that respected and celebrated differences in the context of an inclusive and welcoming environment. She was aware of and sensitive to the financial needs that arise after a family has entered into the school community, and how sometimes these needs go unmet, causing stress and worry for the family. Upon her retirement in 2005, Dottie gave a monetary gift to the school in order to fill this need and provide a designated fund for this purpose. Cathedral School for Boys then named this fund The Dottie THE WILLIAM SCHUPPEL MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP FUND On the occasion of their 15th reunion, the Class of 1979 established a permanent memorial to William “Bill” Schuppel ’79, that will support the educational program at CSB by providing needed financial assistance to students at the School. Currently designated as a “Discretionary Fund”, it gives assistance to students who demonstrate need for a learning specialist, special testing, or tuition assistance. We thank the generous donors who have made contributions to the William Schuppel Memorial Scholarship Fund during the 2017-18 school year: Elynor and William Schuppel*

Sayward Wylie Fund in her honor. Her greatest desire was that the fund would continue to grow and provide help for families for many years. The Dottie Sayward Wylie Fund provides financial support for families with a variety of non-tuition-related items, including uniform items and shoes, school pictures, athletic equipment, daily travel expenses, technological support, tutoring, testings, and extended after-care. We want to thank Dottie for her continued annual support of this fund. As we strive to meet the needs of our socio-economically diverse community of families. If you are interested in making a gift, please contact Jim Schmidt at schmidt@cathedralschool.net. CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE HEADMASTER’S DISCRETIONARY FUND The Headmaster’s Discretionary Fund is a special fund that may be used for needs outside of the regular curriculum. Funds from this pool may be used for a boy who requires a tutor, or for a student whose family is unable to afford testing fees or other academic services outside of tuition, or to extend these types of services to families and students who would otherwise be unable to take advantage of them. We gratefully acknowledge the following donors who have generously contributed to the Headmasters Fund during the 2017-18 school year: Sylvia and Fred Chow* Mrs. David Jamison McDaniel*

The Guardian Society was established by the Board of Trustees to recognize and honor those who have chosen to help advance the School’s mission through testamentary gifts. To accomplish this purpose, the School gladly accepts deferred gifts in the form of bequests, living trusts, charitable lead trusts, life income gifts, pooled income funds, or as a beneficiary of a life insurance policy or other type of estate plan. Members of The Guardian Society can be assured that their future gifts will support the School’s mission and enable Cathedral School for Boys to continue to offer its distinguished program of academics balanced with heart and spirit for years to come. Members of The Guardian Society are invited to various school-related functions every year, including tickets to the annual Christmas Concert at Grace Cathedral. If you or a loved one is interested in discovering more about supporting Cathedral School in a meaningful and lasting way, please contact James Schmidt in the Development Office. 2017–2018 FUND-A-NEED

This fund will allow us to outfit classrooms in the school with new furniture once teachers have tested different options. In a flexible classroom, you might find kids lying on the floor, sitting on chairs or beanbags, or standing at tall tables. We thank the generous donors who made this possible by raising their paddles at this year’s gala:
