MOVING UP, IN, AND ON

CATHEDRAL SCHOOL FACULTY AND STAFF ON THE MOVE

AYUMI SOHN serves as our new Admissions Associate. Ms. Sohn graduated from the University of Michigan with a Bachelor of Arts in 2003. Prior to her current role, she was a Public Affairs Liaison at the Consulate General of Japan in San Francisco. She also served on the Board of Directors for the Japanese Community Youth Council for four years. Ms. Sohn has two children, and her son, Dominic ‘26, currently attends Cathedral.

MATT THIER ’00 is now serving as our alumni coordinator. Mr. Thier is a Cathedral School graduate, and went on to earn a B.A. in political science from Columbia University. After college, Mr. Thier taught English abroad, co-founded an online clothing company, Betabrand, and served on the School’s Board of Trustees.

MADDIE ANDRES has joined the Upper School math team and comes to us after teaching fifth through eighth grades in the STEM program at Town School for the past two years. Ms. Andres also coached cross- country at Town. Maddie holds a B.A. in geology from Colorado College. Welcome, Maddie!

MELISA SEWARD BLOCK now serves as our director of Finance & Operations. Most recently, Mrs. Seward Block served as the managing director of Rancho Solana Preparatory School in Scottsdale, Arizona. Her professional experience also includes roles as the vice president for Strategic Growth at Oregano’s Pizza and director of Finance at PF Chang’s Inc.

TAYLOR ROY is our kinder- garten assistant. Ms. Roy has worked extensively in our after-school program and as a substitute for the last two years. She earned both her B.A. and M.A. in psychology from Wheaton College, where she played varsity lacrosse. After graduating from college, Ms. Roy was appointed as the assistant coach for the Israel U-19 girls’ national lacrosse team and, later, as the program director for Israel Lacrosse.

TALIA ARNON worked with Mrs. Charnas as the fourth- grade teaching assistant. All will miss her happy demeanor and smarts.

KRISTEN VILHAUER is our new high school counselor. Mrs. Vilhauer served as a history teacher, admission associate, and freshman dean at the Branson School. Prior to her time at Branson, Mrs. Vilhauer earned her A.B. in history from Princeton University. Mrs. Vilhauer is a graduate of the Castilleja School in Palo Alto.

MOSE WILLIAMS will be returning as a math teacher for the first term to fill in for Mrs. Goggin during her mater- nity leave. Welcome back, Mr. Willams!

PETE WILLIAMS is our assistant teacher in fourth grade for the 2018-19 school year. Many of you know Mr. Williams already as he has served as the president of our Cathedral School Parents’ Association. Mr. Williams earned a B.S. in political science from the University of Utah. He is the father of Andrew ’19 and Patrick ‘22.

JOHN WALKER will take over the Lower School performing arts responsibilities this year. Mr. Walker has taught general and choral music at the McGillis School in Salt Lake City for the past eight years. Mr. Walker earned his Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Utah and has performed with various musical groups in Salt Lake City for most of the last decade.

PIERRE JOSPÉ, our Director of Finance & Operations retired this school year. Mr Jospé has served Cathedral for 18 years, and the School has advanced significantly under his management and leadership. In fact, the School’s financial position has never been stronger, and this achievement is a direct result of Mr Jospé’s expertise. Come back and visit us, Pierre.
