Precision Machining Program EDISON CAREER AND TECHNOLOGY HIGH SCHOOL
REQUIRED COURSES
9027YMF - Intro to Manufacturing-Machining Credits: 0.5 Course Credit Prerequisite: NA
Course Description: The Manufacturing section of the Introduction to Integrated Technology class introduces students to basic manufacturing techniques. They will learn key concepts like material processing and machining, and get hands-on experience transforming raw materials into finished products, building a foundation for further study in manufacturing.
9028Y - Precision Machining I Credits: 2.0 Course Credit Prerequisite: 9027YMF - Intro to Manufacturing-Machining
Course Description: This entry-level course introduces students to both the hands-on skills and theoretical knowledge needed in machining. Students will learn through engaging lectures, hands-on demonstrations, exciting projects, and the latest CAD (Computer-Aided Design) software. By creating their own blueprints and applying practical skills, students will be equipped to handle a variety of real-world machining scenarios.
9017Y - Precision Machining II Credits: 2.0 Course Credit Prerequisite: 9028Y - Precision Machining I
Course Description: This course covers the basics of machine tools and metal removal processes, focusing on both the methods and the equipment used. Students will also explore the cost and benefits of different techniques. Key processes include turning, milling, drilling, broaching, abrasive machining, and more. Through hands-on lab work, students will apply what they’ve learned by operating machines, designing projects with CAD/CAM software, and working with CNC equipment. Math and science principles will be used throughout the course.
