10TH GRADE REQUIRED COURSE
9132PS - CPPS- Intro to Public Safety Credits: 2.0 Course Credit
Required student application and criteria for this program. This course is a prerequisite for Law Enforcement, CPPS Firefighting & Protection, EMS/EMT, and Emergency Communications pathways. This course is an introduction to basic law enforcement, public safety, emergency medical services and fire science with an emphasis in urban emergency situations. In the first year, students explore these professions through a variety of guest lecturers and site visitations. Students select an area of concentration for the second year of the program.
FIRE FIGHTER PATHWAY

This course is for 11th grade students pursuing the Fire Fighter pathway. This is a basic survey course of the entire medium of fire protection, fire prevention, and fire extinguishment. The application of scientific principles to the studies of fire protection technology and the development of career positions in the discipline for the individual are important goals in this course. Students also receive training on how to prepare for a civil service exam successfully.

EMT (EMERGENCY MEDICAL TECHNICIAN) PATHWAY

9134 - CPPS-Emergency Medical Tech I Credits: 2.0 Course Credit
This course is for 11 grade students to learn about non-ambulance professional rescuers who are first to arrive at an emergency medical scene to provide pre hospital care. Topics covered are patient assessment, CPR review, airway, shock, wound management, full body immobilization, and initial treatment for other medical emergencies. Students successfully completing this course are eligible for New York State Department of Health Certified First Responder certification.

LAW ENFORCEMENT PATHWAY

9133 -CPPS-Law Enforcement I Credits: 2.0 Course Credit
This course is for 11 grade students to learn about methods of criminal investigation, national crime rate statistics, criminal law terms, and examining policing in multicultural communities. Other topics such as becoming knowledgeable about police discretion and behavior, learning about advancements in technologies in solving crimes (DNA), crime scene investigations, search and seizure procedures, vehicle searches and physical fitness training will be covered. Students will participate in role playing different scenarios, interact with law enforcement guest speakers and see up close equipment used by police officers.

For 11th grade students, this is the core foundational course of the Emergency Telecommunications program. Students gain the skills and knowledge necessary to access, control and prioritize calls from the community. Students will practice these skills in conjunction with emergency communications hardware and software in a realistic laboratory experience.
