REQUIRED COURSES
5139 - CAREER & FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT (.5 or 1.0 credit) (Virtual is 1.0) ECO 103 MCC - Personal Money Mgmt. This course provides students the opportunity to determine their personal interests and then research what careers they could potentially pursue based on these interests. Students also learn about financial management both on a personal and business level as well. 7405 - STAGE CRAFT II (0.5 credit) Prerequisite: 7404 - Stage Craft I
7404 - STAGE CRAFT I (0.5 credit) Stage Craft I is the introductory course in the theater Technology production program. Students are introduced to the shop and the stage working spaces. Students learn the functions, hazards, basic safety, and maintenance standards for the theater spaces and equipment. They are instructed on tools, tool categories, and tool safety and receive hands-on training on most of the major shop hand and bench tools. Students will learn extensively about theatrical materials and hardware, stage construction techniques, and scene painting, and learn how those are used to create theatrical stage products.
FLCC- THE 101- Introduction to Technical Theatre Production Technology This course continues the study of the implementation of theater technology and design. The study will continue to cover information and lab applications of lab materials, techniques, and technology used in theater today as well as some advanced studies in technology and scene shop work. Students will learn technical skills and applications in that classroom and then practice them in a lab setting. In addition, students will journal about their lab activities.
7406 -LIGHTING & SOUND TECHNOLOGY (0.5 credit)
7410 - COMPUTER ASSISTED DRAWING II PORTFOLIO (0.5 credit) Prerequisite: 7409 - Computer Assisted Drawing I
This course will enable the student to correlate their knowledge of theater Technology into practice. Students will work closely with Lighting and Sound designers to implement the designs into working theater situations. By working in practical settings with current lighting and sound equipment, students will become familiar with and assume the roles of Sound Engineer, Sound Board Operator, Master Electrician, and Lighting Board Operator.
CAD II / Portfolio focuses on the development of drawing skills essential for graphic communication in the theatrical disciplines and mastery of the AutoCAD drawing platform, as well as Photoshop and 3D modeling through TinkerCAD. Instruction in CAD II / Portfolio centers on the development of drawing constructions more directly related to theater arts and production.
7420 - SENIOR PROJECT (0.5 credit) Senior Project is a seminar-style capstone course for Theater Technology Majors where they will reflect on their progress throughout their course of study and develop advanced project work synthesizing the knowledge, creativity, experience, and skill they have developed over their high school experience. Students will complete applied technical theater projects specific to the school’s Spring production season. They will also create design projects based on class readings and CAD work, a group performance project, and an independently developed personal capstone project. All project work will be accompanied by appropriate reflective components and support materials. Students will present their final project work as a part of their technical theater portfolio.
7414 -PRODUCTION MANAGEMENT (0.5 credit) Students will learn the duties, responsibilities, and expectations of the position of Production Manager for the theater. Through script analysis, lectures, and study of past stage managers students will create a “prompt book” for either a fictional production or a school production. After spending, in some cases, several years in theatrical positions of service, students will learn and assume the role of Production Stage Manager. Students will gain confidence and knowledge to actually manage the cast and crew in a production with real deadlines, real production needs for paying customers. Students will learn and follow procedures for the calling of cues, creation of call sheets, recording of blocking, and all the elements necessary for creating a “prompt book” for a production.
