Course Description: Scholars will engage in fundamental concepts of Medical Laboratory & Health Sciences. This survey course will begin with an exploration of the many careers in biomedicine and health care, which are organized into five career pathways. Scholars will then examine each of the human body systems, including both structure and function with the emphasis on the emergence of diseases and disorders. To complete the course, scholars study skills to maintain health and wellness.
3564 MLHS II - Medical Health Systems & Structures Credits: 1.0 Course Credit Prerequisite: 6040 - Intro to Lab & Health Sciences
Course Description: This second-year course introduces the basic skills and knowledge necessary in the field of medical and research laboratory sciences. Emphasis is placed on safety, laboratory mathematics, medical terminology, basic laboratory skills, and equipment operation following standard operating procedures. Through hands-on learning experiences, scholars will become skillful at solution preparation, pipetting, microscopy, microbiology protocols using aseptic technique, and common testing procedures.

Course Description: This third-year course introduces the basic skills and knowledge necessary in the field of medical and research laboratory sciences. Emphasis is placed on safety, laboratory mathematics, medical terminology, basic laboratory skills, and equipment operation following standard operating procedures. 6060 MLHS IV - Phlebotomy Credits: 1.0 Course Credit Prerequisite: 6040, 3564, 3570 - Intro to Laboratory & Health Sciences, Medical Health Systems & Structures, Medical Lab Techniques Course Description: The Phlebotomy course in year 4 is designed to teach the technical and procedural aspects of basic phlebotomy. Scholars will engage in both theory and hands-on activities in the areas of communication, medical terminology, proper specimen collection, basic anatomy & physiology, as well as complications and variables surrounding venipuncture. This course will provide scholars with the necessary study objectives in order to sit for the National Healthcareer Association Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT) Examination.
5139 - Career & Financial Management Credits: 1.0 Course Credit ECO 103 MCC - Personal Money Management
Course Description: This course provides students the opportunity to determine their personal interests and then research what careers they could potentially pursue based on these interests. Students also learn about financial management both on a personal and business level as well. This course is dual credit with MCC as long as the HS Teacher is dual credit credentialed. Dual credit is not available when taken as a virtual course.
