Course Description: In this ten-week course, students will explore essential computer skills, design elements, principles and procedures. Through hands-on projects, including a logo and advertisement, students will gain insights into various careers in advertising, such as Account Executive, Copywriter, Graphic Designer, Photographer, and more. This class lays the groundwork in industry vocabulary, vector and image editing software, and design theory. By the end, students will be equipped to determine if Advertising Design is the right program to concentrate for their junior and senior year.
9019Y - Advertising Design I Credits: 2.0 Course Credit Prerequisite: 9037YD - Intro to Digital Media-AdDesign
Course Description: This full-year, two-period course immerses students in vector graphics, typography, page layout, photography, and image editing. Through project-based learning, students will address real-world design challenges using industry-standard Apple and Adobe software. They will contribute to the school yearbook, interact with our industry partners, compete in SkillsUSA technical competitions, and earn college credit as enrolled MCC students, providing a solid foundation for future endeavors in design.
9079Y - Advertising Design II Credits: 2.0 Course Credit Prerequisite: 9019Y - Advertising Design I
Course Description: This full-year, two-period capstone course builds on students' design and technical skills in Advertising Design. Students will develop and present a senior branding project, create artwork for real clients in collaboration with industry partners, and engage in work-based learning through internships and job shadowing. They will also participate in technical competitions, compile a professional portfolio, and prepare for higher education applications while taking the National Technical Assessment for a New York State CTE endorsement. This course equips students with the knowledge and experiences needed to succeed in the advertising design industry.
