We have also celebrated book week in school across the week with lots of literary based fun. On Tuesday we hosted Richmond Libraries ‘Battle of the Books’ with Waldegrave coming HEADTEACHER’S MESSAGE

second. We held a book themed dress up day for Year 7 on Wednesday and we welcomed two authors for talks with Years 7-10. Last night we hosted another spectacular Summer Festival. There were fantastic performances from our talented students, including a piece from last weekend’s Beyond the Skies concert where our Chamber Choir supported the Richmond Symphony Orchestra, and it was clear they were enjoying themselves as much as the audience! This year’s theme was Musical Heroes and our school is lucky to have our own musical heroes in the form of the tireless Performing Arts team who pulled this fabulous event together and have given so much time inspiring our students. Yesterday we also waved adios to our Year 10 Spanish students who will be enjoying a long weekend exploring Catanbria with visits to El Soplao Caves, Santander and Bilbao’s Guggenheim Museum.

This week we also announced the results of the Head Girl and Deputies selection process and I am pleased to announce Megan C (pictured) as our new Head Girl. I am sure they will all do a wonderful job (see full list on page 2). This is the last Bulletin of the year as we will publish our termly magazine next week. Have a wonderful Summer!

With more freedom, some (hopefully) great weather, and a bit more time, the summer holidays can be a good time to build our wellbeing. Place2B have shared some top tips put together by researchers from the University of Cambridge and secondary age students, which include: taking time out, building a routine, prioritising sleep, trying a digital detox and sharing our thinking with the important people in our lives. The full list of Place2B’s ten tips can be found here. Experiencing ups, downs and changes to our wellbeing is normal. However, if you are concerned about how your child has been feeling lately, it’s important to get some extra support. There are lots of great websites and services out there which can help support them or provide further information. This includes YoungMinds and Shout or Place2Be’s Get urgent help page. Additionally, the Mental Health Support Team (MHST) have asked if parents can provide feedback on their ‘Helping teens with…’ parent webinar series. In order to continue to make the webinars accessible and tailored to your interests as a parent, we would appreciate you sharing your views and giving feedback via this questionnaire.

NEW HOUSE CAPTAINS FOR 2025-26

A MESSAGE FROM HEAD OF YEAR 11

The Year11 Prom took place just over 2 weeks ago and it was a wonderful event for all. The prom committee did a great job on leading the organisation of the event. They decorated the venue with blue and silver balloons for the ‘City of stars’ theme and voted on and created a special playlist to remember their time at Waldegrave. Our Year 11 looked absolutely spectacular as they arrived and posed for photographs on the steps of the grand staircase of Richmond Golf Club. It was really nice to witness the joy and excitement of our students seeing staff, many of whom were there to welcome them when they arrived. There was just a great atmosphere throughout the evening for this final celebration to mark the end of their secondary school journey. See overleaf for some of the photos from the evening and don’t forget to take a look at the School Magazine out next Friday for more photos and events from this past term including Dress Up Day, the Leavers Assemby and many more. We wish all the students a wonderful summer break and look forward to seeing them on results day on Thursday 21st August.

BOOK OF THE MONTH

‘A Room of One’s Own’, by Virginia Woolf

This poetically powerful extended essay takes readers on a journey through the history of female writers, as we witness first hand the barriers of structural inequality placed in the path of the female sex. This cornerstone of feminist literature beautifully explores the immense power of personal and feminist interpretation, which cannot be recreated by males with complete literary freedom and space. Woolf’s examination of the patriarchal bookshelves, which leave no room for female narrative voices, ignites a desire to shine a light upon the women who broke the locks placed on literary conventions, finally enabling women to write fiction of their own without interruption. Reading this will transform how you perceive the role of the female voice in literature today.

U13 Cricket - Chance to Compete regional final

WON: Regional champions

The U13 Cricket team took part in the Chance to Compete regional final on Thursday 3rd July. We travelled across London to Sidcup Cricket Club, which was a lovely venue for this tournament. There were six teams from across the region who had qualified to take part in the region final and for our team to be named champions we needed to win as many matches as possible. We got off to a good start beating Esher CofE High School by a score of 73 runs to 52, which was followed by an outstanding batting display against Kingsdale Foundation school with a winning score of 105 runs to 63. Runs scored got even better in the third match, beating Acland Burghley School 131 runs to 61. Our fourth match after lunch was slightly closer as Sir Roger Manwood’s High School proved to be a stronger opposition, however the team still managed a win, with a score of 93 runs to 57. The team entered into our final game unbeaten but our opposition was Bexley Grammar School who had only lost one game so far. We were put into bat and held to a score of 52 runs, however the team knew that taking wickets would add to the runs tally. With one over to go Waldegrave had taken four wickets so were now up to a score of 72. This left Bexley needing 8 runs to win. In the end after some great fielding it came down to the last ball, where our opponent needed to a score of six to win and unfortunately that’s exactly what they got!

The team was disappointed to lose this match but taking all the other scores into account we were up against Bexley in a rematch for the final. This time Waldegrave fielded first, showing some excellent bowling and fielding throughout the team; they held Bexley to a score of 42 runs. The team were very confident that they could achieve this score in their turn to bat and did exactly that, winning by a final score of 81 runs to 52. This meant that Waldegrave finished as winners in their final match of the day and were crowned regional champions! Well done to everyone who took part in this match and in all our sporting activities over the school year!

BEHAVIOUR FOCUS

For the Summer Term the school’s leadership team has chosen to focus on our First Rule at Waldegrave: Respect and value learning, each other and our environment. As part of this we are asking students to respect and value learning, putting aside distractions and following our uniform policy by wearing the correct uniform at all times.
