Climate Positive Carbon Footprint Offset Plan - Discover how to offset your carbon footprint by providing work & income through tree planting & conservation
Be Climate Positive!
Here's Why Offsetting Your Carbon Footprint Really Matters!
The UN warns that the world needs to be carbon neutral by 2050. This will require both " removal " — the amount of existing C02 we extract from the air, as well as “ mitigation ” to reduce the amount of CO2 we add to the air. In short, every ton of CO2 we can avoid now will directly help reduce the worst impacts of global warming for all areas of life in the years to come. By planting 600 mangroves at an Employ-to- Restore site , you can remove more CO2 from the air during a typical maturation period than the per capita CO2 emissions of an average US resident in 2025 (estimated at 13.5 metric tons). In fact, donating just $20 a month to the Climate Positive Carbon Footprint Plan will not only offset your CO2 footprint but also impact 10 of the world’s most urgent global challenges!
People & Planet Climate Action At the heart of the Climate Positive Carbon Footprint Program lies a proven Employ-to-Restore initiative, which protects under-served communities by creating living wages for people in extreme poverty. What makes this possible? — the restoration of mangrove forests! This innovative strategy is what enables you to offset an average CO2 footprint by impacting ten of the major significant environmental and humanitarian challenges of our time! A Holistic Solution
Relieve Poverty GLOBAL CHALLENGES 8.5% of global population — about 700 million people — live in extreme poverty, which is defined as living on less than $2.15 per day. Last year the world lost 10 million hectares of forest. Tropical primary forest loss was around 3.7 million hectares, or 10 football fields of forest per minute. In 2024, atmospheric CO ₂ concentrations reached a record high of 426.91 parts per million . This is a 20% increase from 1990. Restore Nature Remove Carbon The Paris Climate Agreement mandates a global warming cap of no more than 1.5°C. This means emissions must be reduced by 43% by 2030 to reach net zero by 2050. Reduce Emissions
They also protect vulnerable coastal communities from rising seas and flooding. Mangrove forests are vital breeding grounds for ocean life & help restore fisheries. PRACTICAL SOLUTIONS Employ-to-Restore projects create livelihoods in such under-served communities. Living wages directly alleviate food insecurity & support human well-being. Mangroves store more carbon per unit area than any other ecosystem on earth. They sequester carbon at a rate up to 5 times greater than a mature tropical forest. All donors to the Climate Positive Program receive a monthly Sustainable Solutions educational series. It outlines best practices for low-carbon lifestyle choices to support a sustainable future.
Discover all TEN Impact Areas in the Following Pages !
Shopping 1 Relieve Poverty
In order to maximize the broader impact for both people and planet, the island nation of Madagascar serves as the focal point for the on-the-ground activities of the Climate Positive Carbon Footprint Program .
Madagascar lays claim to the third highest rate of extreme poverty in the world: 70% of its people live off less than $2.15 a day. The program creates work and income for local villagers through tree planting and forest conservation but that's only the beginning of the benefits delivered! Employee surveys report positive changes in families': • Abilities to meet food needs • Access to health services, schools, and water sources • Abilities to pay off debts & to start micro-enterprises
Shopping 2 Address Climate Justice
Since 1990, the poorest 50% of the world’s population have been responsible for just 7% of total global emissions . In fact, the entire continent of Africa has accounted for less than 3% of it. However, as the maps on these pages indicate, Africa is now also most likely to endure the worst impacts of climate change.
A recent World Bank study estimates that climate change may push an additional 70 million people into extreme poverty by 2030. Whatever practical action we can take now in our daily lives to mitigate climate breakdown will also help to reduce the worst impacts of poverty for the most vulnerable populations around the globe....Yes, most of them in the countries that did the least to contribute to global warming!
3 Restore Nature
The Climate Positive Carbon Footprint Program is informed by decades of tested and proven project experience. To restore deforested mangrove regions with the greatest speed and efficiency, the teams gather propagules from the nearby forests and plant them in the specific tidal-zone locales that best match their unique types. Here’s how the process works!
Propagules begin the germination process while attached to the parent tree, which supplies them with nutrients and water until they are mature enough to drop off the branch. However, only a small percentage of mature propagules survive, due to overcrowding and excessive shade. And here’s two reasons why it’s so effective!
Mangroves are one of few plants that can grow with their roots in soils that are saturated with salt water. In fact, each species has a different level of salt tolerance, which determines where it would flourish within distinct tidal zones . Our team therefore sorts all propagules by species before taking each species to be planted in the appropriate tidal zone section for optimized growth and promotion of healthy, diverse forests.
Food 4 Protect Biodiversity
Biodiversity is fundamental to so many essential functions of everyday life, including oxygen production, drinking-water filtration, soil fertility, plant pollination for crop production, coastal erosion protection, and much more! However, alarming evidence tells us that biodiversity is declining faster than at any other time in human history. In fact, the number of wildlife populations around the world has shrunk by nearly 70% in the last 50 years alone!
You may be surprised to learn that forests are home to more than 80% of all terrestrial species of animals, plants and insects . In addition, the restored mangrove forests created by the Climate Positive Program directly support biodiversity in Madagascar — a critical biodiversity hotspot — as 90% of all plant and animal species are endemic to the island!
Shopping 5 Remove Carbon
By focusing on the restoration of mangrove forests, the Climate Positive Carbon Footprint Program mobilizes one of the world’s most effective natural means of combating global warming. Mangroves store more carbon per unit area than any other ecosystem on Earth. They’re vital entities that capture and stockpile quantities of “blue” carbon in both the bodies of the plant and the sediment beneath them.
Compare mangrove forests to terrestrial ones: Studies that mangroves sequester 2-5 times the CO2 equivalent of a mature tropical rain- forest . Plus, when terrestrial trees die, the carbon stored in trunks and branches will be released, however, as mangroves store most of the carbon in their soil and sediment the carbon may stay put for millennia .
6 Drive Climate Resilience
In tropical regions around the globe, mangroves anchor coastlines, and form a vital link between land and sea. Importantly, mangroves have a very dense root structure that helps to prevent harmful erosion and protect vulnerable coastlines from extreme events like rising seas and flooding. Plus, coastal villages in Madagascar rely on the presence of healthy mangrove and ocean systems for food and income. Crabs comprise the main catch for fishermen in this region, and crabs' habitat is dependent on mangrove forests. However, the degradation of land has led to a steady decline in crab numbers in recent years. The good news is that our recent planting is helping reverse this trend!
When I was younger, it was much easier to find large crabs because there were more mangroves. When people are logging mangroves, there are fewer crabs. Crabs thrive in mangroves. Soso Barofa, Fisherman, Marine Community Conservancy
7 Reduce Emissions

8 Mitigate Climate Change
Travel The Sustainable Solutions series expands on the 3 principles of a circular economy, which are critical ingredients to a greener future for all of us – a holistic plan for sustainability: Design out waste and pollution Keep products/materials in use Regenerate natural systems Circular Economy thinking emphasizes the need to move beyond recycling and eliminate all forms of waste. You can learn more about the “Inspioneer” female founder of the movement here.
For example, this graphic outlines stages in the food distribution process that are likely to contribute to food waste and higher emissions. Food waste accounts for over 8% of all greenhouse gas emissions. Most wasted food ends up in landfills where it produces methane - a greenhouse gas at least 28 times as potent as C02. Check out the video below for the top 10 ways to mitigate food waste
Shopping 9 Impact 12 Global Goals Employ-to-Restore tree planting and forest conservation programs represent the most essential form of sustainable development for communities-in-need. In fact, as a whole,

Shopping 10 Take Strength & Inspire!
“Philanthropy” is a word given to us by the Greeks from ages past. It translates best into “love of humanity,” and shows us that the altruistic desire to improve human welfare was evident from the earliest years in Greek society. For example, upon his death in 347 B.C., the famous philosopher Plato willed the proceeds of the family farm to the academy he had founded in prior years. His generous gift subsequently helped students and faculty to keep the academy running for over another 400 years! When we take positive actions as individuals, we get a real sense of fulfillment. We also—as Plato’s story illustrates— “multiply” our individual good deeds by serving as leadership models and inspiration for others to follow, as they create their own worthy missions…even into perpetuity! So, when you make your charitable donation to adopt the Climate Positive Carbon Footprint Program , you may not think of yourself as a humanitarian, but you should! As well as protecting the planet, YOU are providing economic opportunities for vulnerable villagers in Africa. As a result, local community members will be able to provide meals to their families, or enable their children to attend school, with income that is derived directly from restoring and protecting mangrove forests on your behalf!
