A MESSAGE FROM HEAD OF YEAR 7

Year 7 has had another extremely busy week. On Wednesday pupils came dressed as their favourite book character as part of the book week activities. Can I say what imaginative outfits some of them wore, they made a brilliant effort engaging in this although some regretted their choice of outfit as the day got hotter! They also experienced an author workshop from Beatrice Forshall, who is a writer and artist. They have also been preparing and finalising their entry for Smoothies Project the Judging of which took place on Friday morning during assembly, the judges are still deliberating and winners will be announced in the celebration assembly next week. You will be able to see photos of this and many of the events from this term in the School Magazine to be published next week. With the celebration assemblies taking place next week, I will not be detailing specific totals as this will be shared during the assembly and I don’t want to spoil the surprise! Just to say Year 7 have earned a whopping 21,700 epraise this year. Well done indeed. It’s hard to believe that next week is the last week of term. On Wednesday morning Year 7 will have their final Celebration Assembly to look forward to, and in the afternoon they will be taking part in a Culture Afternoon, where they will experience a range of different activities from different cultures. Then on Friday morning they will have their final House Celebration assembly when news of which House has won the overall competition will be announced. Good luck all! As this will be my last report as Head of Year, I would like to say what a pleasure it has been getting to know as many of the year group as possible. They have engaged in so many activities with such wonderful enthusiasm and they certainly have done their best to uphold the Year ethos of kindness. I wish them all well for the rest of their school career.

MRS BASHFORD-HYNES, HEAD OF YEAR 7

‘Arsenic For Tea’ by Robin Stevens A murder-mystery, with two curious girls as the main protagonists – Daisy Wells and Hazel Wong. As chaos unfolds around them, they try to solve the clues like full-on detectives, but unpaid, of course. Daisy’s mother throws a tea party, with the whole family invited but when one of them mysteriously falls ill with food poisoning and then passes away Wells and Wong are suspicious. Who could have done it, and how? The book is a thrilling read, as you unpick the clues with our protagonists. To suspect a character and find out the truth is a whole adventure without having to leave home. I picked this book from the series specifically because of how suspenseful it was. Almost every character seemed like the culprit, every single one of them acted edgy, so it was even harder to work out. This is the second book in the series, so I recommend reading the first book first, but there are other books in the series as well, so if you enjoyed this one, there are many more to enjoy! BOOK OF THE MONTH
