The important lesson in this incident of the healing of the centurion’s servant is that faith brings its reward. God al ways honors faith. We cannot believe God for more than He can do. We have a God who is greater than our greatest need. Let us come to Him, through Jesus Christ, in faith believing and may He grant to each of us the thrill of watch ing His response to our faith.

Our topic is true! Color is only skin- deep. Much of the world’s woe has come through racial prejudice and actions re sulting from the racial superiority myth. And this is where the gospel comes in: the gospel makes the Christian color-blind! As far as the family of God is concerned there is no distinction of color, race or sex (Gal. 3:28). The Origin and Meaning of the Races It may well be that we are justified in assigning the origin of the races to the same time as the origin of the languages. This event is recorded in Genesis 10-11. Because man refused to extend himself over the face of the earth in keeping with the commandment of God (Gen. 11:1-4), the Lord sent a confusion of language and scattered the people “ upon the face of the earth” (Gen. 11:7-9). Not only was this dispersion designed to populate the earth in keeping with God’s plan, but also to hinder unregen erate man’s desire for power and self glory, and to retard the development of a world dictatorship wherein the indi vidual’s freedom would be lost in a false world-unity (Gen. 11:4-6). We believe that herein lies the purpose of God in language and racial barriers. If this is true then races ought to maintain their identity and avoid the surrender of their autonomy for the sake of a dangerous and false unity. The Two Kinds of Brotherhood We have just indicated our belief in the rightness of racial independency based upon the clearly defined purpose of God in Gen. 10-11 (see also Acts 17:22-31). Let us hasten on to say, how ever, that underneath the barriers of race and language there is a common denominator which may be called human ity. This topic is discussed next week and we do not develop it here; suffice it to say that there is a very real sense in which all men are related physically by virtue of the fact that we come from a common origin—we are the creatures of God by action of His creation (Gen.1-2). But the fundamental truth that many people miss is that there is also another brotherhood that far transcends the brotherhood of humanity, and that is the spiritual brotherhood of those who be come the children of God spiritually by faith in Jesus Christ.
