He has a good record at this track and the rise in distance looks ideal. PERSAN and LORD BELVEDERE are both drawn to do no work. GAME KEEPER only needs luck from the wide barrier to be in the finish. J.B. (BART) CUMMINGS AM Dubbed “The Cups King”, Mr Bart Cummings’ first connection with Melbourne Cup success came at the age of 22, when he strapped the 1950 winner Comic Court, trained by his father, Jim. Three years later, he took out a training licence, and his name later became synonymous with Australia’s most famous race. Mr Cummings has trained the winners of a record 12 Melbourne Cups, and in five of those wins, he also trained the runner-up. (No other trainer has won more than five Melbourne Cups). Mr Cummings was made a Member of the Order of Australia in 1982, and was inducted into the Sport Australia Hall of Fame in 1991. He was an inaugural inductee into the Australian Racing Hall of Fame in 2001, and was elevated to ARHF Legend status in 2008 – the first to stand beside the inaugural ARHF Legend, the mighty Phar Lap.
