Sadly, as we prepare for the Thanksgiving festivities, Veterans Day is often overshadowed. Studies from housing officials state that there are over 730 homeless veterans in Tennessee alone. This data is concerning to East Tennessee Audiology, as we work with a lot of veterans. We know the holidays can be hectic, but in honor of Veterans Day, we want to showcase how you can help the veterans in our community. Alpha Omega Veterans Services, Inc. With permanent and transitional housing, this organization is dedicated to assisting veterans in reintegrating into civilian life. For those who have PTSD, it provides urban farming and gardening for therapeutic exercises. The garden also doubles as an employment opportunity for veterans, as they’re able to sell the garden’s fresh produce. To get involved, consider sponsoring a veteran, donating supplies, or volunteering for one of their various events. Operation Stand Down Tennessee Operation Stand Down’s Capital Campaign and Heroes Breakfast events raise funds for various veteran programs. Some of the veteran services they provide include employment assistance, networking, and housing. To help make a difference, go to OSDTN.org to donate an item off their wish list, volunteer for a Heroes Breakfast, or find other ways to contribute. Vet-Com: Veteran Entrepreneurial Training Command The sole mission of this organization is to provide opportunities for veterans with the entrepreneurial spirit to thrive. By hosting online business classes for veterans with a business mindset, the organization helps veterans develop a revenue channel and a passion to focus on, which helps them reintegrate into civilian life. Community For Heroes Community For Heroes helps veterans adjust to civilian life by supplying short- term and long-term housing in the Cookeville area. They also offer money and time management assistance to veterans in need. To help Community For Heroes support our veterans, donations are always appreciated. Or, if you’re open to hosting an event, they’re always looking for unique ways to reach the community.
