GPA: So, what is your role now? Zennie Sjölund: After transitioning out of the association, I’m going to help keep transforming the payroll industry in different ways. I’ll help other companies with their payroll processes. I’ll do investigations, auditing in in compliance for example. I’m doing lectures. And, I’m excited about a podcast a great colleague of mine and I started earlier this year. It’s really gained a following in Sweden. GPA: What have been some of the biggest changes in the global payroll practice that you have observed? Zennie Sjölund: The global payroll community has come together better. When you meet people from other countries running payroll, you realize how much we have in common more than we have things that differ. Melanie Pizzey of the GPA got us together in a way that I didn’t think was possible. Also, with the adoption of new technology, we can see how much faster payroll can get through. sustainability reporting within payroll. What I’m really proud of is I helped to get payroll in the right rooms to have payroll managerial expertise recognized as valuable to the organization. Speaking of recognition, I had another proud moment three years back, when I was awarded The GPA Recognition Award, which was a brand new category, for my efforts to uplift and champion the payroll industry and make everyone who works within it feel part of something important. That award is very special to me.
