WVL Summer 2020

We left Cleveland on Friday night in two Pullman cars of interesting and different human contacts and it did not take us long to get acquainted. At the station in White Sulphur Springs we were greeted by Mary Salley and Jessie Myers. We were transported to The Greenbrier in limousines and this was the start of a glorious week-end. Upon arrival at the hotel, there in the lower lobby, even before we registered, we were served hot coffee and a delectable pastry by a hostess dressed in all her finery. We stayed Saturday, Sunday, and Monday enjoying every minute, each at her own pleasure, touring the resort under the guidance of the gracious social hostess, visiting each other’s rooms, which were all different and sumptuously decorated and furnished for elegant living, swimming, golfing, cycling, horseback riding, browsing thru the specialty shops, sulphur baths, tea at 5 p.m., movies, walking, taking pictures of the grandeur about us.

We enjoyed cocktails in the Old White Club and yes, there were men and we danced, too. Most of all we enjoyed the superb cuisine— filet mignon champignon, consomme princesse, broccoli polonaise, parfait au Kirsch—such wonderful food impeccably served, finger bowl and all, the acme of gracious top-drawer living. After dinner, before the fireplace, we enjoyed the delicious apples which were placed on the tables in the lobby for the guests.
